It's a 17-room 1873 Second Empire mansion on Lafayette Square, facing the Cathedral, a short flat walk from Forsyth Park and the squares.
This is a small inn, not a hotel — and for a couple, that's the whole point.

If you can, ask for that main-mansion room with the square view.

If either of you needs an elevator and no stairs, book the Andaz Savannah instead — a 151-room contemporary boutique hotel on Ellis Square, elevator-served, about two blocks from the river and central to everything.
You trade the B&B rituals (no included breakfast, no evening wine pour) for step-free ease, an elevated pool terrace with cabanas and a fire pit, and complimentary minibar snacks and non-alcoholic drinks.
It's not antebellum romance — it's a walkable, contemporary base with a pool.
Who it's NOT for: couples set on the classic Savannah B&B experience, and light sleepers who can't get a quiet-side room (weekend noise carries over the pool terrace and Ellis Square — ask for a room away from both).
Parking is valet only, roughly $49–55/night.

The Savannah stay for the design traveler when the building and the pool are the reason you came.
Why we chose it
It's the 2024 rebrand of the old Mansion on Forsyth Park — a 149-key, 19th-century Southern Gothic turreted red-brick building on Forsyth Park, reimagined after a multi-phase renovation.
The centerpiece is a palm-lined interior courtyard built to feel like an Italian lido: a roughly 27-meter lap pool, cabanas, a poolside bar.
It's a property that is itself a reason to come.
- Don't Miss: the courtyard-and-pool "Italian lido" — it genuinely transports people. Across platforms, reviewers repeatedly call it the best pool in the city and a destination in its own right. Make the swim the centerpiece of the stay, not an amenity you happen to get.

Go down to the courtyard early, before the loungers fill, and swim while the light is still low.
For an hour the lido is quiet and the whole conceit works — palms, water, brick turret overhead — and that early swim, before the scene arrives, is the version of Bardo you'll remember instead of the crowd.

JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District
The Savannah hotel for a celebration when you want dining variety, a rooftop pool, and riverfront energy without leaving the building.
Why we chose it
It's a 419-room, three-building complex at the west end of River Street — the Atlantic, the Three Muses, and the adaptive reuse of a 1912 masonry power plant — with a guest-exclusive rooftop pool, a rooftop lounge, multiple restaurants and bars, and public art, fossils, and giant geodes scattered through it.
Everything the night needs is under one roof, and the river is right there.
- Don't Miss: the property as spectacle. The power-plant architecture, the geodes and fossils, and a deep bench of restaurants make it a place to explore, not just sleep. Give yourself an hour to wander the public art and the old plant before the celebration even starts.
- Best Room: a river-view room in the restored Power Plant building — the architectural heart of the complex — positioned away from the rooftop and event noise.
- Worth the Money? Strong for a celebration group or a family that wants variety, a rooftop pool, and energy under one roof.
- What We'd Do Differently:

- What We'd Do Differently: plan the whole day around the ferry's ~10pm last run — it's the one logistic that shapes everything else.
🪙 Smart Alternative: The Westin is the family value play — a full resort day, a real pool, easy self-parking, and the ferry as the fun, at a mid-tier rate. To spend even less, book shoulder season or a garden-view (not river-view) room; the pool, the s'mores, and the ferry don't change with the view.
Ride the ferry back across at dusk after a day downtown, the skyline lighting up behind you and someone small pointing at the boats.
Then let the grandparents turn in while the kids roast s'mores by the river.
