Worth it? YES as an easy, accessible, high-reward stop — arguably the best SUNRISE reflection in the corridor and one of the few near-level, stroller/wheelchair-friendly lake loops. The play: come at dawn for the mirror-still Divide reflection, or fit it in as an easy leg-stretch any time.

Who it’s NOT for: Hikers wanting a challenge or big elevation — it's a flat, short loop, not a workout. Anyone expecting the dramatic high-cirque setting of Emerald or Sky Pond — it's a gentle valley lake. Visitors without a timed-entry+ Bear Lake Road permit in season — it's inside the corridor. Midday summer crowds seekers of solitude — come at sunrise for calm water and quiet.

Skip it if: You want a real hike (do Emerald or Bierstadt instead) or you can't sort the Bear Lake Road permit — otherwise it's an easy win, especially at sunrise.

Time needed: ~20–40 minutes for the loop at an easy pace; longer with photos at sunrise. (research: NPS Bear Lake Road corridor)

Best time: Sunrise for the calm Divide reflection and easy parking; summer through fall for access, with fall aspen color nearby. A good gentle option year-round when the road is plowed (conditions permitting).

Cost: $Booking: No hike reservation, but a timed-entry+ Bear Lake Road permit is required in season; arrive early for the smaller lot. Verify permit + parking live.
