The Decision Card

Sanibel & Captiva, FL, Decided.

Every decision that matters, on one page.

Quiet Nature Couple

Stay: Casa Ybel Resort ($$$)

Eat: The Mucky Duck — book no reservations — first-come, first-served. The play in high season: arrive WELL before sunset (put your name in / grab a table early) or come off-peak for lunch; then take the sunset on the beach out front. Expect a wait at prime hours. Confirm current hours before you go.

Shelling & Wildlife Enthusiast

Stay: Island Inn ($$-$$$)

Eat: The Lighthouse Café — book ⚠ FIRST: confirm it is actually OPEN (see status contradiction). If open — walk-in with a call-ahead seating waitlist; go early to beat the post-sunrise-shelling breakfast rush. The play: a big island breakfast after a dawn shell hunt. Confirm current hours + open status by phone before you go.

Low-Key Multigen Family

Stay: Sundial Beach Resort & Spa ($$$-$$$$)

Eat: Doc Ford's Rum Bar & Grille (Sanibel) — book walk-in-friendly — go off-peak (early lunch/dinner) to skip the wait; some reservations via OpenTable but it's really a drop-in local spot. The play: fresh local seafood + a rum cocktail, live music some nights; order the seasonal fresh catch and the Yucatan shrimp (a signature). Confirm current hours before you go.

When to go: December, January, February, March, April.
