Denver — What to Do.

Denver is a walk-in-pockets city stitched together by a train, a car, and rideshare — with a few deliberate trips out. Two days covers the core: one downtown on foot, one out to RiNo's murals and breweries and then Red Rocks. Here's what earns your time — and, where there's a real choice to make, how we'd make it.

The essentials, decided

🚉 The living room of the city → Denver Union Station. The restored 1914 Great Hall — coffee or a cocktail on the leather couches under the arched windows and the neon "Travel by Train" sign, with the airport train and the mountain trains still running beneath you. Free to wander, and the natural first stop of any Denver trip.

🏛️ The oldest block → Larimer Square. Denver's oldest block — a preserved row of Victorian storefronts strung with lights, good for lunch and a wander, and the anchor of a downtown evening.

🎨 The murals → the RiNo Art District. Walk the mural-covered blocks — a self-guided street-art tour through the old warehouses — then graze the stalls at Denver Central Market. Art on nearly every wall, and the buzziest eating-and-drinking quarter in the city.

🍺 The beer → Denver's craft-brewery scene. One of the country's densest, and easiest done walkable right here in RiNo — a flight or two within a few blocks. One rule: never drive a brewery crawl. Rideshare, or keep it on foot.

🪨 The one worth the drive → Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre. About 15 miles southwest — on a non-event day, walk the steep red-sandstone rows and the trails between the two 300-foot monoliths, the plains and the skyline spread out below (free, and open to walk). If your dates line up with a show, that's the bucket-list version — book the specific concert ahead. Either way you'll want a car.

The downtown culture call: the Art Museum or Meow Wolf?

One afternoon, two very different moods — pick by the trip you're taking, not by which is "better."

🖼️ The Denver Art Museum — the landmark one. The angular Libeskind wing, the Gio Ponti building, and one of the country's great Indigenous-arts collections, at the heart of the Golden Triangle's museum cluster. The choice for architecture and world-class collections.

🌀 Meow Wolf's Convergence Station — the wilder one. A four-story immersive maze — surreal, hands-on, and unlike anything else in town. The choice when you want something stranger and more playful (and a hit with older kids and teens).

With more time

If you have a third day, add the City Park cluster and a mountain drive:

• 🦕 The Museum of Nature & Science in City Park — and, from the park, the famous skyline-and-mountains view across the lake.
• 🌵 The Denver Botanic Gardens — a calm, green half-day near the core.
• 🏔️ The Mount Blue Sky scenic drive — the high-alpine drive (renamed from Mount Evans in 2023), in season only, and only after you've confirmed the current-year opening dates and timed-entry rules. Go prepared for extreme altitude and fast-changing weather.
• ⚾ A Rockies game at walkable Coors Field — a great LoDo evening if the schedule lines up.

A Two-Day Itinerary

Day-shapes, not a minute-by-minute plan — enough to know your trip will hang together. Base in LoDo or by Union Station and Day 1 goes on foot; Day 2 hops to RiNo and then out to Red Rocks, where a car (or a rideshare, never a drive on a brewery crawl) earns its keep.

Day 1 — Downtown, LoDo, and the Museums.

• Morning: start inside Denver Union Station — a coffee or a cocktail under the arched windows, with the trains still running beneath you.
• Midday: walk the LoDo core to Larimer Square for lunch and a wander.
• Afternoon: the downtown culture call above — the Denver Art Museum or Meow Wolf's Convergence Station (buy timed tickets ahead).
• Evening: one of the guide's dinners — see Where to Eat — then a nightcap on a downtown rooftop or back on Larimer Square under the lights.

Day 2 — RiNo Murals, Beer, and Red Rocks.

• Morning: take the short hop to the RiNo Art District and walk the mural-covered blocks, then graze the stalls at Denver Central Market.
• Midday: a flight or two through Denver's craft-brewery scene, walkable right here in RiNo. One rule: never drive a brewery crawl — rideshare, or keep it on foot.
• Afternoon: drive about 15 miles southwest to Red Rocks — walk the steep rows and the trails on a non-event day, or catch a show if your dates line up.
